The Hebrews Experience

.
We, as leaders of Church of the Savior, believe God is alive and working in our congregation. He invites us to stronger relationships with Himself and each other.  The Hebrews Experience is a call to:
o   Move deeper into life in God
o   Strengthen connections in the congregation
o   Increase our interaction with the Bible

We invite you to make a three month commitment to at least one part of the Hebrews Experience.
We will re-evaluate in January and ask for a further commitment as we move deeper into God together.

All groups are held at Church of the Savior.

Praying with Hebrews

Facilitator: Meme Overholt
Sundays at 11:20 – 12:00 noon

We invite you to join us and spend time praying the text of Hebrews in a different way.  We will use prayers of imagination, lectio divina, listening prayer, and other contemplative prayer methods to interact with the text from Hebrews.  About five minutes are spent in this quiet reflection and then there is an opportunity to share thoughts and insights.  The group also takes time each week to hear and pray for needs of all who gather.  You are welcome to join us.

Hebrews Discussion
of the Text

Facilitators: Doug Gilstrap &                                        Richard Broadley
Sundays at 11:20 – 12:00 noon

This is an invitation to join a group that discusses that day’s text from Hebrews. The scripture will be read and there will be a chance to share what struck you in the passage, followed by conversation of the points of challenge, hope, and questions arising from the text. Time will be spent at the conclusion to reflect on what God is speaking to you in light of the text.  Join us for this discussion time during Sunday school.

Hebrews and the
Old Testament Study

Facilitator: Willis Overholt
Sundays at 11:20 – 12:00 noon

This is an invitation to join a book study using the text: The Unfolding Mystery: Discovering Christ in the Old Testament by Edmund Clowney.  The group will be exploring how the New Testament, specifically Hebrews, fulfills the Old Testament promises by examining themes of atonement and the sacrificial system, among others.  The group will read a short section of the book and discuss it together.  You do not need to read outside class and can join at any time.  All are welcome!

Hebrews Survey Study

Facilitator: Dr. Chris Kettler
Co-Facilitator: Willis Overholt
4th Thursday of every month
7:00 – 8:30pm

This is an invitation to join a theological study of the book of Hebrews.  This group will be using the text: Encountering the Book of Hebrews by Donald A. Hagner. Outside preparation will be asked of participants in order to achieve the desired depth and thoughtful engagement.

Contemplative Hebrews Study

Facilitator: Mark Williams
Co-facilitator: Sarah Sackett
1st Tuesday of each month
7:00 – 8:30pm

This is an invitation for people to experience the book of Hebrews through contemplative practice.  Contemplative practice is an opportunity to experience the text in a way that directly impacts one's relationship with God. Thus the invitation in this group is growth in educating the heart rather than acquiring more "head" knowledge.

Participants will keep a journal and take time to 3-4 days a week to practice a contemplative method with text from Hebrews.  Individuals will then come together to share their experiences and what God is speaking in their lives.  The group will also take time to practice a contemplative method together and be in fellowship. There will be opportunities to share personal spiritual journeys in the tradition of the cloud of witnesses.

Hebrews  Worship Response

Join us the 3rd Thursday of each month from 7:00 – 8:00pm for an opportunity to participate in creative worship response to what God has been inviting you into through studying Hebrews.
